BRANDON PRACTICALLY RAN down the hall. Interviewing people wasn’t the most interesting part of being a field agent, but he loved the adrenaline rush of being in the field. Loved it. Being able to pretend he and Oliver were still partners, that he was still whole, made it that much more exciting.
Once again he hadn’t been able to resist Oliver’s dark good looks. He’d missed having Oliver in his mouth, the salty taste of his skin. Discovering Oliver bare beneath his pants had almost made him come. No matter the outer trappings, his rebellious Oliver was still buried under there, going commando as he’d always done. If Brandon had even suspected, he probably wouldn’t have let Oliver leave his office that first day. Knowing Oliver walked around like this was going to haunt him—haunt him in a way that would have him jacking off to thoughts of Oliver even more than he did now.
But he had a job to do, and if he didn’t get his mind out of Oliver’s pants, he’d never be able to prove he had what it took to help with this mission. He’d managed to push the knowledge out of his mind for a bit, but he couldn’t let himself forget that the mission was under threat from someone other than an Umbrae-possessed monster.
Fidgeting, he waited for Oliver to catch up with him before he knocked on the super’s door. His parents had trained him early on how to make small talk, which was one of the reasons Oliver had often let him interview people, but it had been a long time since he’d bothered to try. Since his injury, he’d done his best to avoid human contact. Until this week, anyway.
A tall, gaunt man with a scraggly beard opened the door. If Oliver lost about a hundred pounds and tried to grow a beard, he’d probably look a lot like this guy. An acrid scent wafted out, and Brandon barely kept from wrinkling his nose. The man had apparently stopped showering as well.
“Hello, Mr. Moore. My friend here just moved in, and I was wondering if you have any other vacancies?”
Moore grunted and handed him an application from a small table beside the door. “A few. Bring this back. I’ll call you.”
The door started to close, but Brandon got a foot in to block it. “Is that just for this building?”
“No, I’ve got openings in all three buildings on the street. I gotta go. I was just getting ready to eat.”
Brandon shuddered delicately. Moore’s apartment smelled ghastly, and it turned Brandon’s stomach to even think about eating. “Thank you for your time.” The words had barely left his mouth when Moore slammed the door shut in their faces. Oliver didn’t seem fazed by it, so perhaps Moore had been as uncooperative and uncaring when they’d rented the apartment.
Brandon wanted to suggest going back to the apartment, taking advantage of some alone time, but so far sex had been preceded by an argument. When they
